The Deputy Coordinator NANS South West Zone, Comrade Oladimeji Uthman, has tasked the federal government, state government and all political office holders to make the security of lives and properties of Nigerians their priorities, noting that without security, nothing much can be achieved in the country.

He expressed worry over the state of insecurity in Oyo State and the country at large, saying that something must be done to arrest what he called unprecedented state of insecurity.

The Students leader stated: “If there is no peace and security in a state or community, there will be no development in the area. The high level of unprecedented insecurity in Oyo State is something to worry about.

The killings of innocent souls especially Nigerian Students in the state by unscrupulous elements is so saddening and alarming.“We don’t have to fragment the country. The government must do her best to keep the state safe. We have all it takes to make Nigeria the best country.

This week, there have been cases of murder in two different incidents. In the latest incident which happened in the pace setter state, a woman who was washing in her house was brutally murdered on Wednesday at Sasa area, Ojoo, Akinyele LGA.

On Monday, a five year old boy was matcheted in his parents home in Ibadan, the same local government area, bringing to 5 the number of innocent souls murdered by these heartless people.

The best the President has offered in response to the spate of killings across the country, either by so-called herdsmen, bandits or Boko Haram operatives, have been promises of better performance by the same tired and overstretched military that are to be seen performing law enforcement duties during traffic jams, at road checkpoints, on routine night patrol with police and civil defence operatives or chasing alike petty thieves and armed robbers on the highway.

Never have the military been so demystified.
If what is happening in the North does not happen, we would not know where we are headed as a nation. The Northern governors are now bracing up to establish their own local militias or joint military and hunters’ security guilds. These are the same people bitterly opposed to any mention of state or community policing and also the establishment or the creation of Amotekun in the South West Region.

“The leadership of Nigerian Students in South West Geopolitical Zone ably led by Comrade Kappo Samuel Olawale are not glad to how our legislators are taking the insecurity issue with hands of levity. We charge the Senate, the House of Representatives and States House of Assembly to invite the security chiefs for questioning.

Those in leadership must find a way to ensure that those who elected them are secured and taken care of.”
We hereby appeal to the Governors and the Commander in Chief of Armed Forces, President Muhammadu Buhari to address issues at the foundation of the restiveness in the North and unjust killings in the South.
