28 States, 102 LGA To Be Affected With Heavy Floods – NEMA Warns

The Director-General of the National Emergency Management Agency, NEMA, Muhammadu Muhammed, has revealed that the country will be greatly affected by a flood in recent days.

Muhammed in a statement made available to newsmen on Friday, July 10, urged state emergency managements to commence an immediate sensitization of residents in the city and local areas.

According to the DG, 102 local government areas in 28 states of the country should expect the heavy flood, warned residents to get set for evacuation. He noted that the flood have been predicted since June 2020 in the yearly Seasonal Rainfall Prediction, SRP, and Annual Flood Outlook (AFO) made available by the Nigeria Hydrological Services Agency, NIHSA.

Muhammed called on the governments to organise state humanitarian coordination forum meetings in order to prepare stakeholders for mitigation and response to floods when they hit.

He said, “that refuse, weeds, water hyacinths should be removed from drainages, water channels and all avenues for river run-offs so as to allow free flow of floodwaters,”

Naija News recalls that many parts of the country in the previous months were affected by floods, leading to loss of lives, properties and valuable assets of residents.

Meanwhile, a young lady called Patience Samuel has been accused of witchcraft by her aunty who threatened to kill her and drink her blood, Naija News reports.
