The strike embarked upon by the Academic Staff Union of University; ASUU has been ongoing for several months now and the students of the affected universities are getting agitated already, as they would love to resume and end the wasting of time at home which began since the COVID19 lockdown.

There has been several meetings between the Federal Government and the Union since there has been a go ahead to safely open schools after the lockdown, but the meetings have proved abortive as the two parties are yet to reach a consensus since then.

Another meeting was held between the two parties today, and aftermath of the meeting, ASUU have revealed that the strike might be longer than earlier anticipated, and that they have been urging the federal government to close down schools for 2 or even 5 years, so that all problems in the educational sector can be fixed. See the statement below according to Vanguard;

“We have told the FG to declare a state of emergency in the education sector, shut the schools for two or even five years within which it can fix the problem in the sector and ensure quality education in the country.
