It was an atmosphere filled with fun, entertainment and enlightenment recently at Lagos Airport Hotel, Ikeja when the Rotary Club of Ikeja-Alausa Central, otherwise known as the “Seat of Power” marked its first year of being chartered.
On the 23rd of March 2021, the club was birthed online. That was in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic when physical interaction suffered challenges. Despite the initial hiccup associated with normal phase of group formation, the club has trudged on and become stronger.
Speaking at the occasion, the chartered president of the club, Rotarian Deji Shonuga gave the glory to God and to the commitment of club’s dedicated members. He said, “Like a gold goes through the furnace, we have emerged shining like diamond.
All thanks to my leaders, mentors, friends, members and the NCA (all in Rotary). The Objects and 4-way test of Rotary have been our anchor and they come in handy all the time.”
In course of the outgoing year, the club has been involved in different humanitarian services. The star of it was the donation of borehole to Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu Primary health Centre, Ikeja.
The club is also working on 10 units toilets to be delivered at the Special Correctional Centre for Boys at Oregun, Ikeja – which is going to cost the club N6, 200, 000 (Six Million and Two Hundred Thousand Naira).
Also speaking at the ceremony, the immediate past District Governor of the Club, Rotarian Bola Oyebade reiterate the need to grow the club beyond its current membership.
To corroborate this, another past District Governor, Rotarian Bola Onabadejo emphasized the importance of membership retention, participation, service projects for the communities where the club operates and also the desire to develop leaders that can serve beyond the club level.
To round off the night, the club launched its in-house colourful magazine, “The Seat Of Power Magazine” and a commemorative cake was also cut.
