The Photojournalists Association of Nigeria has announced the postponement of its 2025 End-of-Year Symposium due to the death of one of the foundation member of the association, Mr. Akinola Ariyo, who died on Wednesday December 3rd, 2025 at a Lagos hospital.
The PJAN leadership decided to postpone the symposium as a mark of respect and honour for the late member, who was a highly valued elder in the association.
The symposium, initially scheduled for Friday December 12th, will now take place at a date to be announced soon.
A statement signed by the PJAN chairman, Princess Alaba Igbaroola and released by Secretary, Mayor Kazeem Bakenne expressed sadness over the demise of late Akinola Ariyo, a leader of the association and a prominent member of Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Lagos State Council.
Princess Igbaroola described his death as tragic, adding that the late veteran photo editor would be greatly missed for word of wisdom, humour and his amiable personality.
Until his death, Mr. Ariyo was the Photo Editor of New Nigerian newspapers; a former Internal Auditor and Financial Secretary of NUJ Lagos State Council, who discharged his duties with uncommon diligence, transparency, and an unwavering sense of responsibility.
She wished him eternal rest and offered condolences to his family.
PJAN chairman, including chairman of 2025 End of Year Symposium, Bode Agbede, paid a condolence visit to the deceased’s family on Thursday December 4th, 2025.
The family has announced December 18th, and 19th, as the dates for his interment ceremonies.
