Chief of Army Staff, Lt Gen. TY Burutai, has warned generals against involving in any coup, vowing that the Nigerian army will not in any way tolerate any attend to scuttle the current democratic dispensation.
Speaking, yesterday, at the event where 39 newly promoted major generals were being decorated, said, he’s aware that some generals have been approached and his eyes is on them.
“Democracy has come to stay. We will not tolerate agent of destabilisation. The years of military misadventures in politics have never carried us anywhere. It’s over. ” he said.
Charging the newly promoted generals, the army boss said they should desist from hobnobbing with politicians, “Do not hobnob with politicians. At this rank of the two stars generals, do not lobby for appointment, however, if you must lobby for appointment, lobby the Chief of Army Staff, and you can only do this through hard work, discipline and loyalty.”
“All eyes are on you. We know there are several moves to your attention. You must make sure whatever you are doing, and when some persons approach you, you must act within the confines of the constitution.”
On the calls by many Nigerians that president Muhammad Buhari should sack the security chiefs, Gen Buratai said, “I am glad that we held the Spiritual Warfare Seminar on Wednesday and most of the decorated generals are graduates of the Spiritual Warfare Seminar.”
He continued: “We will continue to protect every law abiding Nigerian anywhere in the county and we will do that in accordance with the rules of engagement and confines of the constitution.”
