The Lagos State Police Command addressed the general public on the breakthrough it has made in busting a kidnap gang in Lagos. The kidnap gang which has been using a thick forest in the Imota/Emuren axis as hideout was flushed out of the same place after a gun duel with police detectives. Revealing this success, CP Hakeem Odumosu further assured law-abiding citizens of Lagos to continue their lawful activities without fear as the Police Command is on top of the game.
CP Hakeem Odumosu commenced: ‘It is just one-topic press conference. It is to intimate the public on the spirited effort of the Command to combat crime in the state and the breakthrough over kidnap gang that want to rear their ugly head in Lagos. The long arm of the law has caught up with a notorious kidnap gang as operatives of the Command smashed the gang in the criminal hideout on Thursday in Imota/Emuren axis of Lagos. This forest is noted for keeping the victims and collection of ransom to which one Lukman Onabanjo was a victim.
The man is a socialite in Ikorodu. In order not to jeopardize him, we asked him to release the money and we began to monitor them’ in the press briefing attended by Oki Samson of Trek Africa Newspaper and other newsmen.
‘At about 23.15hrs on 29th September after days of intelligent monitoring of the gang in a well-flagged, highly-coordinated, and carefully-executed operation which lasted some hours, operatives got the armed gang in the heart of the deep forest. On sighting the police detectives, the daredevil criminals started a shootout. In the gun battle, two of the kidnappers were fatally injured and later gave up the ghost while being conveyed to the hospital for medical attention, one was arrested alive. The suspect arrested is identified as Peter Thomas, male, 25-years, of no fixed address. Items recovered were 2 AK-47, 3 AK-47 magazines loaded, 46 AK-47 live ammunitions, dagger, N10000, one Itel phone, and one MTN SIM card.’
The CP added: ‘This breakthrough, nonetheless, the Command will not relent in ridding the state of kidnappers and other criminal elements who might want to make the state a safe haven for nefarious activities. While warning other criminals to stop their criminal activities and embrace legal activities, we want to use this medium to assure all law-abiding citizens in Lagos state that the Command will not shirk its responsibility of protecting them’, Trek Africa Newspaper reports.
