…Tasks Governors, Lawmakers Stakeholders to join demand for assent on Electoral reforms

The Action Democratic Party (ADP), while congratulating the 9th Senate on its first anniversary, called on the leadership and members of the 9th National Assembly (NASS), led by the Senate President, Ahmad Lawan, and speaker Femi Gbajabiamila, to uphold the virtues and sacredness of the house, by focusing entirely on bills that will have meaningful impacts in the lives of every Nigerian.

The party made this call and reminder as the 9th Assembly clocked a year, since they were inaugurated by President Buhari in 2019.

It will be recalled that ADP while commenting on June 12th celebrations as Democracy Day this year, admonish President Buhari, to sign the amended electoral act, which would eliminate most if not all major irregularities in the conduct of the general elections, argued that, when elections are free and fair, a common man can then have a chance of being elected.

We use this occasion to call on the National Assembly, all State Governors and Stakeholders across the country to ensure that the electoral act (Amended), is as a matter of priority assented to by President Buhari, the party said, they believed that, a long lasting legacy the President can leave behind, after his tenure in 2023, is to enhance and work on credible polls.

The National Assembly owes Nigerians a duty of selflessness, patriotism and integrity in the discharge of their duties, as the true representatives of the people, and therefore, as they journeyed into the second, third and fourth year of the 9th Assembly, they should help Nigerians with life changing bills.

Looking at the economy, due to the current structure, which has now been further punctured and weakened by the COVID19 pandemic, alternatives must be found, to help an average Nigerian survive in this era. This they should do by working in harmony with the Executives.

Not leaving the State Assemblies, we urge them to perform excellently and prove to the people that they are not an appendages of their various executives.

SIGNED:

Prince Adelaja Adeoye,
ADP National Publicity Secretary.
