A Non governmental Organization under the aegis of women has organised a one-day health seminar and empowerment for old parents in Magodo CDA.
The seminar with the theme: “Health Talks” and empowerment took place today, Saturday August 8 at Magodo town halli as part of efforts to encourage health improvement among the old ages.
The founder and President of Successful Angels, Miss Funmilayo Orekoya told pressmen after the event that the aim of coming up with organization is to render their support to old ages in the 57 community development area of Lagos State.
She noted that the seminar was organised to educate old fathers and mothers on how to take care of their health. She further said they educated them on possible symptoms as old people and solutions to those health issues.
She added that the seminar also sensitized the participants on how to keep observing the safety measures put in place by the government, global health experts and world leaders such as using of nose masks, obeying social? distancing order, application of sanitizers cum regular washing of hands with sanitary soaps etc.
She said; “We formed this organization four months precisely, I’m the founder and having noted that I can’t do it alone, I called like minds and today, we are definitely doing better that expected. This is our second meeting after empowering and talking to our elders in Ikeja before moving down here.”
Orekoya further thanked Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the executive Governor of Lagos State, Babajide Sanwo-Olu for their unrelenting leadership to reshape Lagos State at all levels. She affirmed that the Government can not do it all and reason why they are doing everything to support the Government in their little way.
“Every month, we have decided to go to different communities monthly for the next 6 months and further strategies on how to continue the program. We have empowered people in Opebi, Monkey village and also supported the LAWMAN worker who recently complained of non-payement of salary,” she added.According to one of the beneficiaries, Olori Adenike Adebowale, who identified herself as one of the wives of the Bale thanked Successful Angels for their support the old people within the community. She couldn’t hide her happiness haven learnt how to take care of her health. She noted that despite the fact that she got stipends for empowerment, she also learnt alot in today’s health seminar. She prayed that God will continue to bless the organisers.
Another beneficiary, Mr. Niyi Omolodun who was the former secretary of Magodo CDA expressed his happiness over the activities of the organization. He pointed that the seminar was more or less for him because he learnt alot during the seminar. Also, he benefited from the empowerment program.
Finally, asking the Public Relations Officer of the organization, Taiwo Ololade Salvado the caterials used in mobilising the elders who benefited from program. She replied; “We are looking at the age of 60 and above. We went to the CDA and met with the leaders and screened them before arriving at the numbers we have.”
Salvado emphasised that the government also needs help, on this note that they decided to do their best by focusing on the elders in the community and empower them in their little way.
